Another good bet for St. Louis vegetarian food is ethnic restaurants. I really enjoy Thai pizza on the loop (cause you can get pizza with tofu!!!), and the vegetarian Mexican options on Cherokee street are always cheap and delicious. There's also an Ethiopian restaurant on the corner of Kingsland and Olive that is really good (although a little pricey for what you get), but has a great vegetarian sample platter. On South Grand, there's the King and I and Lemongrass, both of which are good Vietnamese/Asian food choices. Strangely enough, I also recommend BarCelona in Clayton—the vegetarian tapas options are delicious and filling, and relatively inexpensive in comparison to the meatier choices.

Liz makes a good point, a lot of Asian cuisines feature vegetarian dishes due to the religious beliefs of the culture. I'm surprised she left out Indian. You ask an Indian and none of the restaurants are good enough, but personally India's Rasoi and House of India are pretty good picks for me.
Oh my god I totally forgot about indian food. What was I thinking!
I also really recommend Gokul, on Olive (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=mUb&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=gokul,&near=Saint+Louis,+MO&fb=1&view=text&latlng=38692056,-90394882,2947970268203785184)
It's called a snacks and sweets shop here, but they have full meals. It's not very expensive, and the twice I've had it, I've been very impressed. Of course, I've never had to order for myself there—I might fail. It also has a really nice atmosphere—they show bollywood movies on a huge wall in the main dining room, and when I've been there, there have been a lot of adorable little children everywhere.
